SITKA MICRO RNTZ REVIEW

SUMMARY

Sitka Micro RNTZ ticks all the boxes: great cure, great nose, smooth smoke, great effect. I definitely would have put this on the shelf pre-regulation, and we’re proud to have it now. This is a great example of small batch BC bud. Pre-regulation I would have called this a trip (AAA), as I’d be looking for a little more stickiness, but that’s really splitting hairs. In today’s market, I’d rank this flower as a high trip (AAA+) or a Quad (AAAA). I’d be happy to recommend this to any indica lover.

RNTZ, a strain from the “Cookies” family made famous in the LA Hip Hop community has made it to BC. Sitka Weedworks is a craft grower collective based in Sooke BC. KnL Growers did the flower justice with great representation of the plant. Their work is available under the brand SITKA MICRO.

RNTZ is an indica dominant hybrid known for its high THC production and its potent effects which can range from relaxing to euphoric, can give a heavy body or head high, and is commonly used for stress or pain by medicinal consumers.

LINEAGE

RNTZ is a member of the Cookies family, and is a cross between Gelato and Zkittles, whose lineage encompases a host of great hybrid flowers including Sunset Sherbert, Girl Scout Cookies, OG Kush, Grape Ape, Chemdawg, and Grapefruit, right on back to landrace strains from South Africa, Burma, Afghanistan, Mexico and Columbia. With this ancestry we can expect only good things!

PACKAGING

Runtz, like most Sitka flowers, comes in a black mylar bag. We like mylar for its low weight and minimal waste, however it does allow some “adjusting” of the bud shape during shipping.

THE FLOWER

Opening the bag, I’m greeted with 4 nice buds, the biggest coming in at 1.5 grams. This is great average bud size. The flowers are a light lime green with dark green and purple highlights and orange pistils, all generously caked with trichomes.

THE CURE

The buds are solid and nicely cured, but got a bit compressed in the mylar bag. Still, there is no breakage or crumbling of the buds when handled. There’s a nice spring and bounceback which shows a good cure. Looking at the well preserved bud structure I’m pretty certain these were hang dried. The trim is good with a little sugar leaf which I don’t mind at all. There is no hint of stickiness when handling the buds.  3 out of 4, because of the compression on the buds, and not sticky to the touch.

WHAT’S IN IT?

This product tested at 28.4% THC, near the top end of what cannabis plants can produce. The four dominant terpenes were listed as Limonene (found in citrus fruits, rosemary, turmeric and fennel), Beta-Caryophyllene (found in cloves, black pepper, basil and oregano), Alpha-Pinene (found in pine, rosemary, basil, and eucalyptus) and Alpha Bisabolol (found in chamomile and sage). Weight % of terpenes wasn’t listed, but looking at cannametrics.io  RNTZ comes in at 3.1% terpenes by weight, a very respectable number. 4 out of 4

THE NOSE

The nose is BIG, sweet and pungent with concentrated herbs, fruits, citrus and spice, and some kushy dankness. When ground the sweetness comes forward and the aromas blend and soften. For a fan of the Gelato strains, this is a familiar and friendly aroma, hinting at good things to come.  4 out of 4

THE GRIND

the Grind RNTZThe buds bust up big and fluffy, and when pinched hold a nice peak, showing some good stickiness. From the feel of the flower I guessed the moisture level at about 10 or 11% by weight, but according to cannametrics.io this flower is 14.5% moisture, a surprisingly high number. The theoretical ideal moisture content is between 10-12%.

THE ROLL

The ground flower busts up big and fluffy, binds well and rolls easily. The ground flower doesn’t break down and crumble when rolled. The fluffiness encourages you to roll a little tighter, and again shows the difference a great cure makes.

THE DRY PULL

The dry pull highlights the exotic fruits, citrus and spice, characteristics of the gelato family.  There are some nice herbal tones as well, something like mint or basil or thyme.

THE BURN

A tight roll gives a slow and even burn with a nice white ash. The smoke is super smooth, with a creamy throat and lung feel. The flavour is a great balance between sweet, herbal and spice. I’d be happy to recommend this to any indica lover. 4 out of 4

THE EFFECT

At a low dose, RNTZ was very calming and grounding, but clear and focused. It provided a very comfortable high, no hint of anxiety, and had me feeling positive and happy. I was ready to move forward with my day and tackle the various tasks at hand. Not overly heady or spacy, but did inspire me to get a few extra things done that had me rushing to my next meeting.

Taken in a higher dose, RNTZ gives a heavy body and head high, great for winding down your day and leading to a deep sleep.

Great job KnL! We’ll have our eye out for more products out of KnL and SITKA MICRO and be sure to bring them in to the shop.
