THE CULTIVAR
OGEN Cannabis is based in Calgary AB. This Calgary based producer is a small batch grower, their team pheno-hunts for their genetics, and they hang drying and hand trim their flower.

LINEAGE
Bacio Punch #8 is a cross between Purple Punch and Gelato 41.  Purple Punch is a cross of Larry OG x Granddaddy purple, while Gelato has the famous parents of Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies x Sunset Sherbert.

What this means is that Bacio Punch #8 is GSC (OG x Durban) recrossed with itself multiple times with some Mendocino Purps and an OG x Burmese (Pink Panties) thrown in for good measure.

PACKAGING
OGEN uses a squared plastic container with a squeeze and pull top. The container was right sized for an eighth, and I found this package easy to open. The package is airtight with no smell escaping.

THE NOSE
Bacia Punch #8 has a complex nose combining citrus, spicy, herbal, fruity and musky aromas. If you’re familiar with the aromas of the parent plants, this all makes sense and be familiar. The nose isn’t super loud but is very present.

BAG APPEAL
This eighth had 6 buds with a little shake. The buds showed a rainbow of colours from pops of bright lime green to sections of deep green and purple, with bright orange pistils. The bud shape was well preserved and not compressed. Buds were a little on the dry side, not terribly brittle but brittle enough to make me guess that the shake in the can was due to breakage during shipping.

THE DIGITS
This batch of Bacio Punch #8 comes in at 25% THC with 1.78% Terpenes. The five main terpenes are:

B-Caryophyllene 0.37% Also found in black pepper, hops, clove, oregano and more, this terp has a spicy peppery aroma. Beta-caryophyllene is unique because it can bind with CB2 receptors: usually only cannabinoids do this. It has potent anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties. It is known to help relieve anxiety and pain, reduce cholesterol, prevent Osteoporosis, and treat seizures.

Farnesene 0.34% Commonly found in turmeric, sandalwood, patchouli, ginger, hops, grapefruit and chamomile (among others), this terp brings sweet, woody and herbal aromas. Studies have linked Farnesene benefits with healthy digestion, anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant, and anxiety relief.

Valencene 0.18% Named after Valencia oranges, this terp is also found in other citrus fruits, and the bark of various trees. It brings sweet citrus and aromatic wood aromas. Studies have associated Valencene with anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective and immune system boosting attributes.

A-Humulene 0.15% First found in hops, humulene is also present in basil, ginger, cloves, black pepper, and ginseng. Studies have attributed many benefits to humulene, including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antitumor effects, and appetite suppressant.

Sabinene Hydrate 0.15% Sabinene is found in oak trees, black pepper, cardamom, tea tree oil, and nutmeg. It has a warm, citrusy, peppery aroma. Though not as widely researched as others, this terp has been linked to anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects.
3 out of 4, Nose was great, but I thought it could have been bigger.

THE CURE
The BP#8 cure is on the dryer side of the ideal 10-12% moisture range.  The buds are hard with very little flex, and there is a ready snap of the stem when bent. For my tastes, a little more moisture would benefit these flowers, and also probably preserve the terps a little more. Having said that I know some growers and consumers who favour this dryer cure.

THE GRIND
The flower grinds nicely, I ending up with a fine grind after my usual number of turns. When pinched, there was a bit of a peak, but the flower wasn’t overtly sticky.

THE ROLL
When rolling, the ground flower held shape OK, but needed a little coaching to stay put. Overall it rolled easily.

THE DRY PULL
Drawing on the unlit joint, herbal flavours of rosemarie, mint and oregano really showed through, coupled with some fruit flavours of grape, citrus and apple, and some musky diesel.

THE BURN
Was smooth and flavourful right off the top. The flower showed a nice white ash. The Gelato parentage really showed itself with that complex melange  of herbal fruity spicy flavours. The flower was well flushed with a clean ash.

THE EFFECT
True to the GSC lineage, this is a very comfortable high for me. At the small dose I took, it’s a nice daytime indica: stress relieved, uplifted, focused and ready to get to work.
